TAR TAR ABUJA

Tar Tar Abuja is another new spot in the buj that opened its doors to the public sometime last month. They’re currently running a soft opening so I visited with a few Abuja bloggers some weeks ago.

LOCATION

Tar Tar is located at 5 Sorotona street, off Blantyre street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

AMBIENCE

The decor at Tar Tar Abuja isn’t very elaborate; the focus was on the outdoor space, the bar and part of the indoor space which is the “Tar Tar Girl” graffiti which I believe is everyone’s favourite spot for pictures. I really like the outdoor seating area – the chair colour, the leaf painting on the walls and the pretty lights.

FOOD

Tar Tar is clearly going to be the go-to spot for good drinks and nice outdoor vibes because they had four pages for drinks alone in their menu and one for food and the options were mainly grills.

What we had:

  • Tar Tar Special Platter – ₦15,250
  • Oriental Rice – ₦1,500
  • Yam Chips – ₦1,000
  • Grilled Goat Meat – ₦3,500

The Special Platter was quite disappointing when it arrived because the waiter had mentioned that it could serve three people but I think it’s actually meant for two. The platter had 2 prawns, 2 spring rolls, chicken and goat meat pieces, 2 pieces of roasted corn, plantain, and potato wedges served on a fancy two-tier wooden tray. The food was tasty; the chicken and goat meat were well spiced and soft.

The grilled goat meat was very bony and didn’t taste as good as the one served on the platter. There was no sauce or ketchup served with the yam chips and potato wedges which is a ridiculous oversight. we made a request for some and the waiter brought something that looked like a shot glass, barely filled halfway with ketchup.

Drinks

  • Chapman – ₦2,000
  • Blueberry Mojito – ₦3,500
  • Lemonade – ₦2,500
  • Strawberry Daiquiri – ₦2,500
  • Water – ₦1,000

They really got the cocktails right! we all enjoyed our drinks even though we didn’t understand why a bottle of water was ₦1,000.

SERVICE

The service was quite slow, our food took a while to arrive and was underwhelming, to be honest. Getting the bill took several minutes and reminders. Given that they’re running a soft opening, we expected the manager or any staff to approach our table for feedback on the food or service but that didn’t happen.

Overall, I’d give them a 2.5 star rating and If I visit again, it’ll be for just drinks and to chill outdoors.
