ALAMALA ABUJA

I’ve been trying to be more adventurous with my food choices and to make an effort to taste meals I’ve never had. This the main reason I decided to visit Alamala Abuja to try Amala for the first time. Alamala is a new spot that opened last month in the Buj and they sell just Amala.

LOCATION

40 Durban Street, Off Ademola Adetokunbo Street, Wuse 2 Abuja, Nigeria. Opposite Papa’s Grill.

AMBIENCE

There isn’t much to say about the ambience as Alamala is more a less a pickup and delivery spot. They do have a few seats outside where people can sit and wait for their food but I doubt anyone will be comfortable eating there because it’s right outside and quite hot in the afternoon. The food truck, however, looks really good and chic. I absolutely love the minimal design.

FOOD

I had nothing to compare their Amala with as this was my first time trying Amala so I went with a friend who likes to eat Amala so we can get an expert opinion for this review. We both had the Full Meal which costs ₦2,200 each and the package comes with Amala, Ewedu, Gbegiri and any protein of choice.

I had my Amala with a spoon which I’m sure some people frown upon but I really didn’t like the idea of dipping my hand into the soup. The taste was very underwhelming; the soup was too watery, had no burst of flavour and the meat was hard. I liked the consistency of the Amala – not too soft or hard, just perfect. In my friend’s words “you haven’t tried Amala yet”. He was very unimpressed and mentioned how overpriced our meal was. I guess the next time I’ll try Amala, it will be from a spot he recommends.

SERVICE

The service at Alamala Abuja was pretty decent – friendly, attentive staff and an impressive speed of service. The process of placing the order and making the payment was very convenient. Their packaging is one thing they’ve certainly gotten right but they need to work on their recipe. Overall, I give them a 2-star rating. The soup could be thicker and taste better.
