PITSTOP LAGOS

I was in Lagos a few weeks ago and Pitstop was on my “must visit” list. A number of my Lagos followers on Instagram had posted about it and everyone had only good things to say about this restaurant. I knew I had to go see what the hype was about for myself, so I went on a solo lunch date to check it out.

PitStop is located at 92A Younis Bashorun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. Google map is pretty accurate.

AMBIENCE

One thing that fascinated me about PitStop is the bike theme that was clearly expressed in every part of the restaurant – the wall designs, decorative mugs, and pictures hung on the wall. The idea is to provide a place for people to refuel, re-energise and also relax while having good meals, and they nailed this completely; worthy to note that they also have a shop where you can get some biking supplies. The choice of yellow paint gave the indoor space a very bright, cheery and airy feel. I’m usually not a fan of the colour but I loved how they toned it down with wooden chairs and tables that added a bit of brown in the mix.

There was cool, relaxing music playing in the background which I loved and they did a great job with the seating arrangement – the place could be packed and you really won’t notice it. Similarly, the outdoor space is also very cute and well arranged – it’s no news that I’m a sucker for wooden and earthy tones.

FOOD

What I ordered:

• Thick cut pork chop, apple sauce + a side of jollof rice – ₦6000
• Chocolate milkshake – ₦3000
• Ginger beer – ₦500
• Water – ₦500

First of all, portions!!! The jollof rice they served as a side dish was quite large and it had a nice, slightly smoky flavour. I enjoyed the pork chops – it was juicy, tender and quite tasty. The highlight for me was how tender and well cooked it was – I really hate struggling with meat. In addition, pairing it with the apple sauce gave it quite a distinct but sweeter taste.

I was also served complimentary garlic bread that was hot and soft! The chocolate milkshake was the only thing I didn’t enjoy so much. It just wasn’t the sweetest milkshake I’ve had and I think they added too much whipped cream at the top.

SERVICE

I love visiting places where the staff are literally hands-on with everything and I can tell you the staff at PitStop are well trained. They were very polite and welcoming, my waiter was quite conversant with the menu and actually suggested the meal I had. I also loved the occasional checkups he did to see if I was having a good time or needed anything else.

Overall I’d give them a 4.5-star rating and I will definitely visit whenever I’m in Lagos again.
