TRADITIONAL SPA EXPERIENCE AT GURU’S NEST ABUJA

I have heard a lot of interesting stories about traditional spa treatments so when I was invited to try a spa package at Guru’s Nest, I was really excited. I had quite a week and a spa session was exactly what I needed to relieve the stress.

Guru’s Nest is a traditional spa that specialises in the use of organic products alone for services like body scrubbing, facials, waxing, etc. I was invited to try the Jade Package which included; Body wax (just one body part), Body scrubbing and polishing, Facials, Body and Vagina Steaming.

LOCATION

THE PROCESS

First of all, I must say this traditional spa treatment may not be for the Body Conscious because you will be stripped down to your panties.

So I was given a disposable shower cap and disposable panties which was all I had on for the first step- The Sauna. I sat in the zip-up sauna for about twenty minutes. The purpose of this step was to open up my pores and cleanse my body through perspiration.

HALAWA WAX

The next thing was the Halawa wax. It’s made with sugar and lemon. This was the one treatment I dreaded only because I’ve heard some not so pleasant stories before. So I asked Anita (the lady who attended to me) if it would hurt and she told me No. Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m here to tell you that was a Lie!! Lol. So the wax was rubbed on the part of my leg with hairs and then pulled off with a slight force to remove the hairs.

The only bright side is that the pain doesn’t last beyond ten seconds after the hair is removed. Also, the results will make you forget about the pain. My legs were glowing! On a scale of one to ten (one being not painful and ten being very painful), I’d say it was a strong seven.

DILKE SCRUB AND CAMWOOD POLISH

Next, I had the Dilke body scrub and Camwood polish. The Dilke is made with starch and essential oils while the camwood polish is mixed according to skin type and needs. Mine was a mixture of cam wood, sandalwood and essential oils. The scrub and oil is meant to help with sunburn, acne and glow.

The mixtures were rubbed all over my body and left to dry up. This took about thirty minutes. When the mixture was dry, the lady used a sponge to scrub it off before washing it off completely with water.

KHALTA-KURKUM FACIAL

The Khalta-Kurkum facials was next. This was done with the “Khalta” and Turmeric. It helps to give the skin a brighter appearance and also fight blemishes such as eczema, sunburn, acne, etc. The Khalta mix was rubbed on my face while it was getting heated, then the turmeric mix followed and lastly a sheet mask.

VAGINA STEAM

The last thing I did was the Vagina steam. I was really skeptical about doing this because obviously it was my first time and I wasn’t sure what to expect. The Vagina steam is acclaimed to cleanse the vagina, ease period cramps, improve fertility, tighten the vagina, get rid of infections and balance hormones. The process was pretty simple, the steaming pot of herbs were placed in the hole and all I had to do was sit naked on the chair. Honestly, I didn’t feel anything else apart from the heat but a lady I met there who was also trying the Vagina steam for the first time, said she could feel some bowel movements. I guess the feeling will be different for everyone.

SERVICE

I enjoyed every moment I spent there because the lady who attended to me was very friendly, taking her time to explain the processes and also answering all the questions I had. The entire process took about two hours, thirty minutes but I didn’t even feel the time passing. You know what they say about time and fun.
